Cold Weather MGN SOP
Procedure#:HB SOP 97
Function: Management Policies
Implementation Date:040123
Policy/Purpose: Our goal is to always maintain an ambient room temperature of 68 degrees or more. There are remote temperature sensors located in each taproom, sometimes more than one. The temperature is on a digital display that is usually located behind the bar.
Managers should monitor this temperature when outside air temperatures begin to drop below approximately 70 degrees. Drafts, breezes, or air movement from fans, open roll up doors, open man doors and excessively windy days can lower the inside temperature quite substantially.
Customers will often simply tell you they are cold, but you should also take note of people wearing hats, gloves, or jackets as indicators that the temperature may be too cold. Our staff is often warmer since they are busy being physically active, running and pouring beers so they may not notice. It is essential to establish cold weather operating procedures to ensure the comfort and safety of all customers. This might include adjusting the thermostat, providing additional heating sources, or offering blankets to patrons who seem particularly affected by the chill. By being proactive and attentive to these cues, we can create a more enjoyable atmosphere for everyone.
Each location has specific steps to take as shown below. When the display temperature drops below 68 begin taking the appropriate steps. Additionally, ensure that all team members are informed of the temperature guidelines and emphasize the importance of monitoring conditions throughout the event. As part of the mgn party setup process, review the checklist to confirm that all necessary materials are ready and accessible. Prompt action must be taken to prevent any damage to the items in the setup.
Take Step number 1 fist. Wait approx. 30-60 minutes and if the display temp is not 68 or greater then proceed to step 2. Again, wait and check temp then go to step 3 if needed. Repeat this process until 68 degrees is reached or all steps are completed.
Procedures: Ceiling fans MUST remain on at all times. Slowest speed during cold weather and highest speed during warm weather. During cold temps the fans pull nice warm air down from the ceilings and circulate it around floor level.
